INTRODUCTION
|
emblica
officinalis gaertin is belonging to the family of Euphorbiaceae.
It is commonly known a Aonla. It is a medium sized tree
and is highly valued because of its fruit, which has high
restorative, nutritive and medicinal values. The fruit has
been found to be the richest source of vitamin C. it is
quite hardy prolific bearer and highly remunerative even
without much care. It is a medicinally very important plant.
Though
there are many hybrids a few namely Banarasi, Chakaiya,
Francis, Krishna, N-A 6, 7, 8, 9 are readily available at
KANSAL AGRO-TECH, have been found to give
good quality production.

MEDICINAL
USE
|
It
is valued as an antiscorbutic, diuretic, laxative, alternative
and antibiotic. Other parts of the plants could be used
in treating chronic dysentry, bronchitis, diabetes, fever,
diarrohoea, jaundice, dyspepsia, cough. The properties and
nature of inhibitors of potato virus in the plant extract.
Pharmacological activities of phyllemblin isolated from
fruit pulp and protective effects of fruits extracts in
myocardial necrosis are some of the important uses. The
seeds are used in Asthma and biliousness. Triphala consisting
of equal parts of powdered emblic myrobalan, chebulic myrobalan
and belleric myrobalan is used as a laxative and in headache,
constipation, piles, enlarged liver and in sciatica. The
flowers are cooling refrigerant and asperient. Root and
bark are astringent.
