INTRODUCTION
|
The
plant andrographis paniculata nees is belonging to
the family of Acanthaceae is annual herb. Generally comes
up in wastelands near forest area. Rural people use it as
a household medicine.

MEDICINAL
USE
|
Entire
plant is used for various diseases. The juice of leaves
together with certain species is dried and administered
orally to infants to relieve irregular stool and loss of
appetite. Decoction of whole plant is used by tribals, in
malarial and other type of fevers. In dysentry and certain
forms of dyspepsia associated with gaseous distention of
the bowels, the decoction of leaves is also used. The leaves
contain a bitter, water soluble lactone andrographolid (C20
H30 O5).
